Tips:

  1. Axela/Demio MZR vs. SkyActiv Identification: When sourcing heads for the Axela or Demio, production year is not a definitive indicator. Verify the engine configuration or VIN. SkyActiv variants feature direct injection ports integrated into the cylinder head, whereas legacy MZR engines utilize external injectors mounted on the intake manifold. These architectures are non-interchangeable.

 

  1. Direct Injection (DISI) Component Integrity: Early MZR Direct Injection Spark Ignition (DISI) heads, commonly found in the Biante and Premacy, are prone to significant carbon sequestration on the intake valve stems. When acquiring refurbished units, verify that intake tracts have undergone complete mechanical or chemical decarbonization to mitigate the risk of post-assembly combustion instability.
