Honda Air Intake Sensor
The Honda Air Intake Sensor Reference Matrix
1. The High-Volume Modern “Hitachi-Style” MAF Sensor (37980-5BA-A01)
This is the powerhouse of modern Honda inventory. It is a slim, top-mount insert sensor used across almost all turbocharged Earth Dreams engines and late-model platforms.
Group A: The L15 Turbo & Modern Hybrid Fleet
These vehicles run identical digital MAF signals and mounting hole alignments.
- Fit / Fit Shuttle / Shuttle: Covers the GK5, GR, and GP JDM platforms.
- Vezel / Vezel RS: RU1/RU3 generations dominate this sub-tier.
- Civic: Covering the FC/FK 1.5L Turbo variants.
Group B: The Next-Gen Crossover & Estate Tier
- HR-V: RU and RV chassis types.
- Jade, ZR-V, CR-V (Modern 1.5T).
2. The Classic “Wide-Body” Hitachi MAF (37980-RNA-A01 / 37980-RLF-013)
Recognisable by its bulky rectangular body, this sensor was Honda’s standard for naturally aspirated R-series, K-series, and J-series engines from the mid-2000s through the 2010s.
Group A: Mid-Size Sedans & SUVs
- Civic: Specifically the FD1, FA1, and FB2 platforms utilizing the 1.8L R18 engine.
- Accord: Covers the workhorse CL7, CU2, and CR2 chassis generations.
- CR-V (32 of 40 units): RE3/RE4 and RM1/RM4 platforms running K24 powerplants.
- Stream & Insight.
Group B: High-Volume Multi-Purpose JDM Minivans
- Grace: GM4/GM5 sedan variants—highly active in the commercial/taxi space.
- Stepwgn & Stepwgn Spada: RG and RK chassis generations.
- Freed & Mobilio.
3. High-Displacement V6 Utility Tier
These large-bore intake systems use targeted V6-profile MAF architectures designed to sustain heavy throttle volumes without voltage drops.
- Odyssey: RB1/RB3 and RC JDM configurations.
- Pilot, Ridgeline, Inspire, Integra.
4. Standalone Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Element Group (37880-PLC-004 / 37880-6C1-A01)
These configurations do not feature a mass air flow element on the intake box. Instead, they utilize a small, twist-in probe directly on the intake tube or intake manifold to check temperature, leaving air volume calculation to the MAP sensor.
- Actv / Acty: Uses a classic standalone micro-IAT probe.
- BR-V & City: Regional naturally-aspirated i-VTEC variants that bypass complex MAF sensors.
- WR-V: Shares the exact micro-IAT layout found in the City/BR-V bracket.
