Subaru Air Intake Sensor
The Subaru Air Intake Sensor Reference Matrix
1. The High-Volume Modern “Slot-In” MAF Group (Denso 22680AA380)
Introduced during the transition to the FB-series naturally aspirated Boxer engines, it is a highly active, quick-turnover part.
Group A: The Everyday Commuter Core
These three models represent identical electronic signals and physical airbox mounting depths.
- Impreza: Dominates the GP/GJ and early GT/GK generation lineups running the FB20 engine.
- XV & Crosstrek: This is the same chassis; whether badged as JDM “XV” or export “Crosstrek”, they utilize the identical intake tract.
- G4: The high-volume JDM sedan version of the Impreza (GJ/GK series).
Group B: Crossover & Wagon Extensions
- Forester: SH and SJ generation naturally aspirated models.
- Levorg: The VM4 JDM sport wagon running the 1.6L FB16 DIT turbo engine.
- Exiga: Ya-series crossover multi-purpose vehicle.
2. The Legacy EJ/EZ Engine Generation MAF (Denso 22680AA310)
This bulkier, classic-style insert sensor tracks older multi-point injection engines and heavy-displacement platforms built before the FB-engine family took over.
- Legacy: BL/BP and early BM/BR chassis lines running the EJ20, EJ25, or EZ30 Boxer setups.
- Outback: Shares the exact mid-2000s Legacy mechanical layout.
3. The Performance Turbo & Specialized Hybrid Tier
These applications require highly responsive hot-wire configurations tailored for forced-induction spikes or unique dual-powertrain mapping.
- WRX STI Stays isolated on the high-boost EJ257 platform, utilizing specialized heavy-duty air metrics.
- WRX (1 unit): VA-generation running the direct-injection FA20F twin-scroll turbo engine.
- Crosstrek/XV Hybrid Variant Applications: Note: If any of your XV/Crosstrek units are the early Eco-Hybrid models, they bypass the standard AA380 sensor and pull from a specialized 5-pin configuration (22680AA400) shared with the BRZ platform.
